Even with the drastic cuts being proposed and acted out by Congress (and the White House), there continue to be many opportunities for work in the public sector.
USAJobs.gov is a a great place to get started looking for work with the federal government. They recently revamped the website and after playing around with it a bit, the site seems a bit more user-friendly. A second site that I sometimes find easier to work with (it is a much simpler setup) is federalgovernmentjobs.us.
But what about jobs in state or local government? Here it gets a bit trickier! As far as I can tell, there is no single website that includes state and local jobs for the entire country. Each state usually has their own website for state jobs and often there are job sites for municipal jobs by state.
For example Massachusetts has a job site and the Massachusetts Municipal Association runs a municipal job site. Are there other examples out there? Does anyone know if there are more comprehensive sites?
Another good way to find municipal jobs, but more time consuming, is to visit municipal websites or call them directly.
